TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology rallied from an 11-point second half deficit to close within three points in the last three minutes, before Anderson University relied on clutch free throw shooting to earn a 68-62 men's basketball victory on Wednesday night at Hulbert Arena.
Justin Jordan scored 23 points, and Max Mollaun contributed 22 points for the Ravens. Junior Tyler Duffy led the Rose-Hulman offense with a career-high 18 points with six rebounds, and junior Corey Povaleri scored 14 points with six boards to provide depth.
Anderson held a 53-42 lead with 5:49 remaining, before Rose-Hulman scored 10 of 12 points to move within 55-52 at the 2:56 mark. Duffy and sophomore Wade Stallings opened the run with back-to-back three-pointers, and Povaleri hit two free throws to bring the margin to three.
Anderson answered with back-to-back three-pointers of its own to push the lead back to 61-52 with 2:02 left. Rose-Hulman relied on four points in seven seconds to close back to within 63-58 with 52 seconds left, after two free throws from Povaleri and a steal and layup from Duffy.
Anderson hit four straight free throws in the final minute to secure the win. The Ravens hit 14-20 free throws total for the contest.
Other key contributors to the Rose-Hulman offense included junior Matt Loesing with nine points and seven rebounds; sophomore Collin Wojcik with seven points and two assists; junior Jimmy Miller with six points and six boards; and Stallings with six points and two assists.
Anderson improved to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in league play, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 1-4 and 0-1 in conference games. The Fightin' Engineers host Transylvania University in another conference matchup on Saturday.
