Women's Soccer Opens at Franklin Invite This Weekend

LIVE STATS VS. WILMINGTON (FRIDAY)

LIVE STATS VS. TRINE (SATURDAY)

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Insitute of Technology women's soccer team opens the 2014 season with two matches at the Franklin College Invitational this weekend.

Rose-Hulman faces Wilmington College on Frdiay at 6 p.m., then faces in-state foe Trine University on Saturday at 5 p.m.  Both matches will be played on the Franklin College campus.

Rose-Hulman returns nine starters from last year's team that finished 10-6-4 overall and 6-3 in conference play to qualify for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament for the first time since 2009.

The Fightin' Engineers were picked to finish fourth in the HCAC preseason coaches poll and look to continue their tradition of strong defense.  The Fightin' Engineers allowed just 12 goals in 20 matches last season, and all-region goalkeeper Lucinda Combs recorded a school record 11 shutouts.

Wilmington finished 12-7-1 last season and had a 5-4 mark in Ohio Athletic Conference matches.  Trine had a 2-17 record last season, although the Thunder competed in eight matches decided by just one goal.

After this weekend's tournament, Rose-Hulman returns to action at Greenville College on Wed. Sept. 3.
