Women's Soccer Shuts Out Trine 1-0

FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team won 1-0 for the second consecutive night Saturday, defeating Trine University 1-0 at the Franklin College Invitational. The Fightin' Engineers finished the weekend 2-0.

Rose-Hulman found the back of the net in the fifth minute when freshman Kate Kasch scored her first goal with an assist credited to junior Hayley Gilliam.

13 minutes later, Meghan Ulrich of Trine was sent off via a red card, giving Rose-Hulman a player advantage for the remainder of the contest.

Althought the Fightin' Engineers could not muster another goal, their defense took over holding Trine to just six shots in the game. As a team, Rose-Hulman took 13 shots with eight of them being on net.

Junior goalkeeper Lucinda Combs earned her second shutout of the season while recording four saves in the win over Trine.

Both teams took one corner kick each. Rose-Hulman committed nine fouls to seven for Trine.

Rose-Hulman improves to 2-0 on the season and returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 3 at Greenville. The game is slated to start at 6 p.m.
