GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team has yet to allow a goal in the 2014 season. The Fightin' Engineers kept their undefeated season alive, defeating the Greenville College Panthers 3-0 Wednesday evening.
The game was scoreless until freshman Eliska Saiz broke through the Panther defense and was tripped inside the Greenville box. Fellow freshman Melissa Rivera took the penalty kick, burying it in the upper right corner.
Rose-Hulman took its 1-0 lead into halftime and would not add to it until the 72nd minute when a Hayley Gilliam corner kick found the foot of freshman Stefanie Panzenhagen who tapped in her first goal of the season from inside the 6-yard box. The Fightin' Engineers would add another goal in the 85th minute on a shot from senior Haley O'Neil.
Rose-Hulman outshot Greenville 11-2 in the contest. The Fightin' Engineer back line held the Panthers without a shot for the first 85 minutes. Junior goalkeeper Lucinda Combs earned her third shutout of the season.
For the first time since 2007, the Engineers begin their season with an unblemished 3-0 record. In addition, Rose-Hulman has yet to surrender a goal in the 2014 season, outscoring its opponents 5-0.
Rose-Hulman's next two contests are on the road at Millikin on Sept. 6 and at Marian (Ind.) on Sept. 10.
