ELSAH, Ill. - Two goals in a span on three minutes helped the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout victory over Principia College Thursday evening.
Despite outshooting the Panthers 5-0 in the first half, the Fightin' Engineers could not muster a goal in the opening 45 minutes.
In the 50th minute, senior goalkeeper Drew Miller, punted a ball downfield. After one bounce, a Principia defender attempted to send the ball back to Panther goalkeeper Matt Jones. Junior Marco Cattani intercepted the pass and tapped the ball into the open net for Rose-Hulman's first goal.
In the 53rd minute, sophomore Brad Rostron's 30-yard shot deflected off the post right to the feet of sophomore Tyler Blankenship who hammered a shot into the upper-right corner for the Engineers' second goal of the game.
Rose-Hulman outshot Principia 14-5 in the contest as well as holding a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. Miller earned his 26th career shutout in the victory.
Rose-Hulman reamains unbeaten on the season with a 3-0-2 record. The Engineers return to action Sunday for a 4:30 p.m. (ET) (3:30 p.m. at site) game at Illinois Wesleyan.
