GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology claimed a five-set battle over Hanover College, before falling to No. 25 ranked Millikin University in three sets at the DePauw University Invitational on Friday night.
The Fightin' Engineers rallied from an early deficit to defeat Hanover 16-25, 25-22, 25-16, 24-26, 15-9 in a non-league matchup against an in-state foe. Millikin then topped Rose-Hulman 25-13, 25-19, 25-17 in the nightcap.
Against Hanover, sophomore Morgan Dreyer led Rose-Hulman with her first career triple-double in the Hamover victory. Dreyer recorded 10 kills, 18 assists and 15 digs in the victory. Freshman Emily McLendon had a team-high 11 kills, and freshman Becca Poppel also reached double figures with 10 kills.
Junior Sarah Jensen recorded 22 assists to lead the squad, while McLendon had three block assists. Senior Briana Harvey paced five Engineers in double figures with 28 digs, and freshman Gabi Razma contributed 18.
In the Millikin match, Poppel had a team-high seven kills. Dreyer led the effort with 11 assists, and Jensen pitched in with 10. Razma had 17 digs, with Dreyer also reaching double figures in digs with 10.
Rose-Hulman stands 6-5 on the season and concludes the DePauw Invitational with matches against Baldwin-Wallace and Concordia Chicago on Saturday.
