TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored three goals in the first half to earn a 3-0 victory over Webster University in women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Eliska Saiz scored twice in the first half, including with four seconds remaining before halftime, as Rose-Hulman tied its largest scoring output of the season. Junior Kate DeMoss opened the scoring earlier in the first half.
Defensively, Rose-Hulman recorded its fifth shutout of the season to improve to 5-0. Junior Lucinda Combs had 10 saves in the shutout.
DeMoss put Rose-Hulman on the board in the 26th minute after five early Combs saves kept the match scoreless. Junior Hayley Gilliam provided a crossing pass to DeMoss, who booted home the goal.
Rose-Hulman pushed the lead to 2-0 with a score in the 37th minute. After Rose-Hulman obtained a steal, Saiz booted home a score from inside the box. Saiz scored again with four seconds left in the first half, after a pass from junior Helena Bomber.
Webster outshot Rose-Hulman 16-6 in the match, as Combs tallied double digit saves in the shutout.
Rose-Hulman puts its 5-0 record on the line at nationally ranked Illinois Wesleyan on Sunday. Webster dropped to 2-2-2 on the season.
