TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology junior Dieter Schultz scored his first career goal with 11 seconds left in the first overtime to lead the Fightin' Engineers past DePauw University 1-0 on Wednesday night.
Schultz fired a shot from 20 yards out beating DePauw netwminder Jake Pezzuto to the far post. The strike lifted Rose-Hulman to victory over the Tigers in a battle of two teams ranked in the top five of the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region.
Senior Drew Miller recorded his 28th career shutout with six saves to earn the victory. DePauw outshot Rose-Hulman 14-5 in the contest, but Schultz made the first Fightin' Engineer shot in overtime count.
DePauw's best chance to score came in the 76th minute when Andy Morrison's left-footed shot toward the near post found the hands of Miller.
The victory over DePauw marked only the third time in school history Rose-Hulman has defeated the Tigers. The win was also Rose-Hulman head coach Sean Helliwell's first win over DePauw.
Rose-Hulman remains undefeated and improves to 5-0-2 on the season, while DePauw dropped to 4-3. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Centre College on Sunday afternoon.
