TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team concludes its three-game homestand Wednesday, Jan. 14 when the Franklin Grizzlies come to Hulbert arena for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
The Fightin' Engineers enter the contest with a 8-5 record overall and a 4-2 mark in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play. Rose-Hulman most recently notched its fourth HCAC victory of the year with a thrilling 51-50 win over Defiance on Saturday. Freshman Alyzia Dilworth converted two free throws with 20 seconds to play to give the Engineers the lead. Defiance missed its final attempt of the game. Dilworth and sophomore Josie Schmidt each scored 12 points while fellow sophomore Jamie Loving added five points and 10 rebounds.
Senior Gracie Gibbs leads the team offensively averaging 9.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Abbie Marshall is second on the team in both categories, averaging 8.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. As of Jan. 11, Rose-Hulman ranks 19th in the nation in both scoring defense (50.8) and field goal percentage defense (32.6).
The Grizzlies comes into the contest with a 7-5 record including a 5-1 mark in HCAC play. Franklin's lone loss in conference came at the hands of Manchester on Jan. 7. Katie Brewer and Lauren DeSutter lead Franklin offensively averaging 17.8 and 11.8 points per game respectively.
Franklin leads the all-time series with Rose-Hulman 19-9. The two teams split the regular season series a year ago, but the Grizzlies top the Engineers in the HCAC Tournament.
After the game with Franklin, Rose-Hulman hits the road to Mount St. Joseph on Saturday, Jan. 17. The game is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
