TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team travels to Mount St. Joseph University on Saturday, Jan. 17 for a 2 p.m. contest.
The Fightin' Engineers enter the contest with an 8-6 record overall and a 4-3 mark in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play. Rose-Hulman most recently fell to Franklin College 56-53 at home last Wednesday. The Engineers had a chance to send the game into overtime, but a three-pointer from junior Andi Evers at the buzzer hit the back of the rim. Sophomore Abbie Marshall scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the game. Freshman Alyzia Dilworth added 10 points and three rebounds.
Senior Gracie Gibbs leads the team offensively averaging 9.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Marshall is second on the team in both categories, averaging 8.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
As a team, the Engineers score 55.1 points per game while surrendering 51.2 points per game. Rose-Hulman also averages nearly 39 rebounds per contest.
As of Jan. 11, Rose-Hulman ranks 19th in the nation in both scoring defense (50.8) and field goal percentage defense (32.6).
Rose-Hulman leads the all-time series with Mount St. Joseph 16-5. The Engineers have won the last eight meetings. Last year, Rose-Hulman won 64-48 in Terre Haute and 58-51 in Cincinnati.
The Lions comes into the contest with a 4-10 record including an 0-7 mark in HCAC play. Mount St. Joseph has dropped its last four contests. Tara Dennis and Brilyn Webb lead the Lions offensively averaging 16.2 and 9.9 points per game respectively.
After the game with Mount St. Joseph, Rose-Hulman hits the road again Wednesday, Jan. 21 for a 7:30 p.m. game at Hanover.
