BOX SCORE

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Transylvania University placed four players in double figures and hit 24-31 free throws to top Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 71-60 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Parker Stansberry led four Pioneers in double figures with 16 points.  Alex Jones scored 15 points, and reserves Mason Monroe and Tristan Burgess added 11 points each for Transylvania.

Sophomore Collin Wojcik led three Rose-Hulman players in double figures with 15 points on 5-10 from the field and 5-5 on the free throw line.  Sophomore Wade Stallings added 13 points and was 6-6 on the foul line.

Junior Jimmy Miller recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.  Junior Matt Loesing a career-high 13 points, and junior Tyler Duffy provided nine points and five rebounds to the effort.

Transylvania was held to 37% from the field and 36% from three-point range, but the Pioneers forced 19 turnovers to overcame a +11 rebounding advantage for the Fightin' Engineers in the contest.

Transylvania jumped out to a 33-22 lead late in the first half, before the Fightin' Engineers scored six straight points to end the first half down just 33-28.  The second half started slowly for both teams, but back-to-back scores by senior Corey Povaleri and Miller brought Rose-Hulman within 40-38 at the 12:26 mark.

A three-point play by Wojcik brought the Engineers back within 46-43 with 8:28 remaining, but Transylvania pushed its lead to 10 points at 58-48 with a 12-5 run over the next five minutes.  Rose-Hulman closed within six points with 3:00 left, but Transylvania hit clutch free throws down the stretch to earn the win.

Rose-Hulman stands 10-6 overall and 6-4 in HCAC play, while Transylvania improved to 8-9 and 5-5 in league games.  The Fightin' Engineers remain two games behind Mount St. Joseph and one game behind Defiance and Anderson in the league standings, after losses by Mount St. Joseph and Defiance on Saturday.

The Fightin' Engineers return to action with a trip to in-state rival Anderson on Wednesday night.
