TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team returns home for the first time in two weeks as the Fightin' Engineers host Anderson on Wednesday, Jan. 28 for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
Rose-Hulman enter the contest with a 9-8 record overall and a 5-5 mark in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play. The Engineers held a lead late in their last game, but two free throws from the HCAC's leading scorer, Katelyn Smith, gave Transylvania a 67-66 victory in Lexington, Ky. In the loss, Rose-Hulman connected on 9-11 shots from behind the arc, led by sophomore Kristen Belyea (5-7) and senior Sheree Williams (3-3).
Senior Gracie Gibbs leads the team offensively averaging 9.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Sophomore Abbie Marshall is second on the team in both categories, averaging 8.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. As of Jan. 26, Rose-Hulman ranks 29th in the nation in scoring defense allowing opponents 52.4 points per game.
The Ravens come into the contest with a 1-16 record including an 0-10 mark in HCAC play. Anderson's lone win on the season came over UC-Clermont on Nov. 22. Senior Cori Connor and sophmore Shelby Shaffer lead Anderson in scoring averaging 13.2 and 10.3 points per game respectively.
Anderson leads the all-time series with Rose-Hulman 23-7. The Engineers won the first meeting of the year - a 45-37 victory at Anderson on Dec. 17.
After the game with Anderson, Rose-Hulman travels to Defiance on Saturday, Jan. 31. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
