DEFIANCE, Ohio -- Defiance College shot 62 percent from the field and senior Bernard Edwards scored 30 points to lead the Yellow Jackets past Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 88-56 in men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.
Edwards led four Defiance players in double figures with an 11-16 shooting performance. Mason Roth added 11 points for the Yellow Jackets, and Drew Frizzell and Michael Kaminski had 10 points each.
Senior Michael Hallstein led the Rose-Hulman offense with 12 points on 4-7 from the field. Junior Jimmy Miller scored nine points, senior Corey Povaleri added eight points, and sophomore Wade Stallings pitched in with seven points.
Defiance led by 16 points at 36-20, before Rose-Hulman closed within 41-32 at the break on back-to-back baskets by Dillon Reynolds and Tyler Duffy.
In the second half, Defiance used a 14-6 run to push the advantage near 20 and secure their 14th victory of the season.
Rose-Hulman stands 10-9 overall and 6-6 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action, while Defiance improved to 14-5 and 9-3 in league games. The Yellow Jackets trail Mount St. Joseph by one game for the top spot in the HCAC. Rose-Hulman returns to action on Wednesday with a home matchup against Earlham.
