The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team returns home for the first time since Dec. 6 when the Fightin' Engineers face Earlham College on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
Rose-Hulman comes into the game with a 6-5 record and is looking to return to winning ways as the Engineers have dropped their last two contests, at Illinois Wesleyan and at Bluffton. Sophomore Abbie Marshall scored a career-high 16 points in the loss to Bluffton. Sophomore Josie Schmidt added eight points and two blocks.
Senior Gracie Gibbs leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 9.1 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Marshall is second on the team in both categories, averaging 8.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
As of Jan. 5, Rose-Hulman ranks 17th in the nation in scoring defense (50.7) and 32nd nationally in field goal percentage defense (32.6). The Engineers average 53.5 points per game. In addition, Rose-Hulman outrebounds its opponents by an average of 4.6 rebounds per game.
The Quakers comes into the contest with a 3-8 record, including an 0-4 mark in HCAC play. Earlham's three wins have come against St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Kenyon, and Wittenberg. Kasin Spay and Hannah Franklin average 16.4 and 12.1 points per game.
Rose-Hulman leads the all-time series with Earlham 10-9. The Engineers have won three of the last four meetings, but lost the most recent game, a 63-56 loss at Earlham during the 2013-14 season.
After the game with Earlham, Rose-Hulman continues HCAC play against Defiance at home on Saturday, Jan. 10. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
