LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Transylvania University battled to a scoreless draw in a match of two top Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer programs on Saturday at Transylvania.
The Fightin' Engineers and Pioneers have combined to win 12 consecutive HCAC tournament championships and continued their strong rivalry with another battle.
Rose-Hulman outshot Transylvania 23-6 in a contest mainly controlled by the Fightin' Engineers. Charles Lynch led Rose-Hulman with five shots, and Austin Webb had four. Nick Kowalkowski, Ben Lyon and Dieter Schultz added three shots each.
Carter Wright held Transylvania off the scoreboard with three saves, and the Pioneers enjoyed an outstanding performance from goalkeeper Cody Waltrip with eight saves.
Rose-Hulman stands 7-2-3 on the season, while Transylvania has a mark of 5-2-5. Both squads are 2-0-1 on the season, just behind first place Hanover at 3-0. Both teams have matches with Hanover scheduled for later this fall.
The Fightin' Engineers return to action with a home match against Franklin College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
