HCAC TOURNAMENT PROGRAM
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's tennis team faces Transylvania University in the opening round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. at West Indy Racquet Club.
The Fightin' Engineers have a record of 6-4 on the season and are 5-3 in HCAC play. Transylvania has a 4-4 mark and a 3-4 record in conference play.
Rose-Hulman and Transylvania met on October 10th this season with a 5-4 victory at home. The Engineers jumped to a quick 5-1 lead over the Pioneers which secured the victory for Rose-Hulman, but Transy came back to win the final three sets of the match.
Bella Evans leads Rose-Hulman with a 8-2 singles record, and Lauren Edwards is also above the .500 mark at 7-3 on the season. The doubles team of Edwards and Lauren Miller is 7-2, while Becca Stanley and Sydney Short have a 6-3 doubles mark.
The Fightin' Engineers women's tennis team looks to capitalize on last season's conference tournament finish. Rose-Hulman faced Franklin College in last years HCAC Tournament Semifinal and won 5-2 against the Grizzlies. The Engineers went on to face the Hanover College Panthers in the HCAC Championship and took a tough loss of 5-2 to finish second on the season.
The winner of the Rose-Hulman vs. Transylvania match will face Hanover College in the semifinal round on Saturday at 1 p.m. The championship match will take place Sunday at 10 a.m. The winner of the six-team event will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
