TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored twice in each half to defeat Manchester University 4-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday at the Engineer Intramural Field.
Sophomore Madeline Romeo scored goals in each half to propel the Fightin' Engineer offense. Rose-Hulman outshot Manchester 32-6 in the match, with Romeo firing a team-high six shots. Senior Lucinda Combs recorded two saves in the shutout.
Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a score by Romeo at the 15:10 mark of the first half. Senior Kate DeMoss provided the assist on the opening goal. Twelve minutes later, DeMoss found the net unassisted to give Rose-Hulman a 2-0 edge at the break.
In the second half, freshman Lauren London scored at the 61:46 mark to push Rose-Hulman's lead to 3-0, on a pass from freshman Corie Ewoldt. Romeo added the final goal of the day, with an assist credited to senior Cassidy Cain.
Rose-Hulman improved to 6-8 on the season and 2-3 in HCAC play, while Manchester dropped to 3-9-1 and 1-3-1 in league games. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Earlham College in another league match on Tuesday.
