TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opens the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer schedule with a home matchup against Defiance College on Saturday at the Engineer Intramural Field.
Rose-Hulman completed the non-conference schedule with a 4-5 overall record after defeating St. Mary-of-the-Woods College 5-0 on Wednesday. The Fightin' Engineers played a challenging non-conference schedule that included two matches against teams in the NCAA Division III top 25.
Senior Kate DeMoss lead the Fightin' Engineers with five goals this season, and sophomore Eliska Saiz has added two goals and two assists. Senior Hayley Gilliam leads the offense with three assists.
Defensively, the Fightin' Engineers have used a starting lineup featuring nine starts from defenders Samantha Jacobs, Madeline Romeo and Cassidy Cain. DeMoss, Saiz and senior Helena Bomber have also started every match in the field this season.
Senior goalkeeper Lucinda Combs has started all nine contests with a 0.98 goals against average, an .868 save percentage and four shutouts to pace the defensive effort.
Defiance has a 1-8 record on the season after a challenging non-conference schedule. Sophomore Kassie Memmer leads the Yellow Jacket offense with four goals.
After Saturday's match, Rose-Hulman hosts Mount St. Joseph on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The match will also serve as a Grey Matter Awareness Game with free T-shirts, food and games for fans scheduled.
