Swimming & Diving Dominates Home Opener

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won 27 events, including sweeping all 16 men's events, in a dominant performance against Millikin and Manchester in the swimming and diving home opener on Friday night.

Rose-Hulman swept the meet by winning dual meets against both Millikin and Manchester on the men's and women's side.  In the men's competition, Rose-Hulman topped Manchester 206-54 and Millikin 206-30.  On the women's side, Rose-Hulman defeated Millikin 149-100 and Manchester 181-69.

The women's performance featured the lone individual three-event winner of the night in junior Ellie Hong.  She captured top honors in the 50-freestyle (24.96), 100-backstroke (1:00.82) and the 200-backstroke (2:11.04).

Two women's competitors added two event wins each.  Senior Regen Foote earned two wins by recording a total of 371.70 points in 11 dives at the one-meter board.  Freshman Lauren Blake added victories in the 200-freestyle (2:05.38) and the 500-freestyle (5:38.22).

Other individual winners for the women included freshman Maria Kline with a 1,000-freestyle time of 11:42.39, and junior Savannah Rice with a 200-breaststroke time of 2:39.03.

The women also swept the 200-medley and 400-freestyle relay events.  Hong, Rice, Bethany Lefeber and Blake won the 200-medley relay in 1:54.91, while Blake, Rice, Kline and Melissa Arbelaez captured the 400-freestyle in 3:57.00.

The men's performance included a perfect 16-for-16 in event victories.  Six individuals led the way with two wins each.

Senior Sam Gould swept the one-meter and three-meter diving events with a strong performance that provisionally qualified for the NCAA Diving Regional.  Gould scored 270.00 points in one-meter diving and 290.45 points in three-meter.

Other swimming double event winners included senior Orion Martin in the 100-butterfly (49.88) and 200-butterfly (1:53.38); sophomore Cam Gill in the 50-freestyle (22.08) and 200-backstroke (2:00.30); sophomore Avery Krovetz with a distance sweep in the 500 (4:56.97) and 1,000 (10:14.54) freestyle events; sophomore Ben Stone in the 200-freestyle (1:48.61) and 200-individual medley (2:03.48); and freshman Nick Samra in the 100-breaststroke (1:01.46) and 200-breaststroke (2:16.25).

Other individual winners included Pierce Bartine in the 100-freestyle (48.69) and Kirk Dickson in the 100-backstroke (55.50).

Rose-Hulman also swept the two men's relay events.  Gill, Noah Randall, Martin and Tyler Sariscsany won the 200-medley relay in 1:38.69, while Bartine, Nicholas Jeronis, Nate Weber and Krovetz captured the 400-freestyle relay in 3:20.41.

Rose-Hulman returns to action with a trip to Chesterton to face Albion and Carthage on Sunday November 1.
