TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Hanover College scored twice in the second half to break open a tightly contested match and earn a 2-0 victory in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.
Elaine Simpson scored in the 54th minute to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Jessica Comorosky added an insurance goal in the 79th minute as Hanover maintained a share of first place in the HCAC standings.
Hanover outshot the Engineers 12-5, with Madeline Romeo and Hayley Gilliam leading the Fightin' Engineers with two shots each. Lucinda Combs added six saves in goal.
Prior to the match, Rose-Hulman honored seven seniors for their contributions to the squad over the last four years. Honorees included Helena Bomber, Cassidy Cain, Combs, Kate DeMoss, Gilliam, Katie Maier and Mallory McDevitt.
Rose-Hulman stands 7-9 overall and 3-4 in HCAC play, while Hanover improved to 11-5 and 6-1. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Anderson on Wednesday.
