TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology football team returns to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action with a trip to Manchester University on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Rose-Hulman is off to its best start since 1987 with a 6-1 record after falling 42-35 to HCAC leader Franklin last weekend. Junior Austin Swenson set the career school record for touchdown passes (55) against Franklin and has passed for 5,545 yards at Rose-Hulman. Senior Aaron Abbott became the career school record holder for pass receptions last week against Franklin, increasing his career total to 201.
Junior Alec Fisher continues to hold the career school record for touchdown receptions with 25, which stands one ahead of Abbott on the all-time list. Meanwhile, Swenson leads the HCAC in passing efficiency. He has completed 169 of 249 passes (67.9%) for 2,057 yards and 24 touchdown passes with just two interceptions.
Sophomore Kevin Dufauchard leads the Rose-Hulman ground attack with 546 rushing yards and four scores. Fisher, Abbott and junior Joe Moehrle have crossed the 400-yard mark in receiving this season. Senior Jacob Dye has also hauled in seven touchdowns among his 20 catches. Senior Craig Larew stands a perfect 36-36 on extra points, 4-8 on field goals and has punted for a 39.8-yard average with 12 kicks inside the 20-yard line.
Defensively, junior Connor Kispert ranks among the HCAC leaders with 13 tackles-for-loss, six sacks and three forced fumbles. Sophomore Kaelen Garner (43) and sophomore Mike Henry (39) lead the team in tackles. Sophomore Tyler Brutofsky, junior Kevin Nowak and sophomore Alec Thompson lead the defense with two interceptions each.
Manchester enters Saturday's game with a 3-3 record, including wins over Earlham, Mount St. Joseph and Defiance. The Spartans have crossed the 40-point mark in each of their wins. Spartan sophomore Hunter Hardee leads the HCAC in every rushing category (703 yards, 117.2 yards per game, eight rushing touchdowns).
After Saturday's game, Rose-Hulman returns to action at home with its Senior Day against Mount St. Joseph on Nov. 7 at 1:30 p.m.
