TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored twice in each half to earn a 4-0 women's soccer victory over Defiance College in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both schools on Saturday at the Engineer Intramural Field.
Senior Helena Bomber scored two goals in the first half to help Rose-Hulman enjoy a strong start. Freshman Lauren London and sophomore Carolyn Donohoe added goals in the second half to balance the Fightin' Engineer offense.
Bomber scored in the sixth minute on an assist from sophomore Madeline Romeo. Sophomore Stefanie Panzenhagen provided the assist on Bomber's second goal of the opening 45 minutes.
Senior Mallory McDevitt passed to London for Rose-Hulman's third goal just one minute into the second half. Sophomoer Eliska Saiz had the assist on the final score of the day.
Rose-Hulman outshot Defiance 13-1 in the contest, with Meredith Remy providing two saves for the Yellow Jackets. Senior Lucinda Combs and sophomore Carli Weinberg combined on the shutout at the goalkeeper position.
Rose-Hulman improved to 5-5 on the season and 1-0 in conference play, while Defiance dropped to 1-9 and 0-1 in league play. The Fightin' Engineers host Mount St. Joseph in the Grey Matter Awareness Game on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
