TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored twice in the first half to top Mount St. Joseph 2-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer action on Wednesday night.
Junior Alex Jansen scored in the 16th minute, courtesy of an assist from sophomore Austin Webb. Senior Dieter Schultz scored on an outstanding hitter, courtesy of Webb's second assist in the 41st minute.
Mount St. Joseph scored once in the 71st minute on a rebound scramble goal by Seth Freppon. The Fightin' Engineer defense was able to hold strong in the final 19 minutes to keep the final score at 2-1.
Rose-Hulman outshot Mount St. Joseph 12-10 in the contest, with Schultz firing three shots. Webb and junior Nick Kowalkowski adding two shots each. Sophomore Carter Wright picked up the victory at the goalkeeper position with six saves.
Rose-Hulman improved to 7-2-2 and 2-0 in HCAC play, while Mount St. Joseph stands 6-5 and 0-2 in league play. The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Saturday at Transylvania University.
