TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opens the 2015-16 women's basketball home schedule with a matchup against Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hulbert Arena.
The Fightin' Engineers stand 3-1 on the season to match the best four-game start in school history. The 2006-07 squad previously started 3-1, before winning its next 11 games to earn national top 25 poll votes. This year's team opened with wins over Albion, Oberlin and Case Western before falling to undefeated Marietta on Sunday.
Junior Josie Schmidt leads the Rose-Hulman offense with averages of 11.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots per game. Junior Kristen Belyea joined Schmidt on the all-tournament team at Marietta last weekend and ranks second in scoring at 9.3 points per contest. Senior Cassidy Cain has chipped in 8.0 points per game and leads the team with 14 assists.
Defensively, Rose-Hulman leads the HCAC in scoring defense (54.0), field goal percentage defense (35.7%), blocked shots (3.5 per game) and assist-to-turnover ratio (+1.1).
Illinois Wesleyan comes into the matchup with a 3-2 record after defeating Illinois College 76-67 on Sunday. The Titans have also defeated Oberlin and Albion this year. Both Rose-Hulman and Illinois Wesleyan finished 2-0 in the Albion Tip-off Tournament on Nov. 20-21.
After Wednesday's matchup, Rose-Hulman begins Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a home game against Mount St. Joseph on Saturday at 1 p.m.
