Women's Basketball Captures Home Opener 70-46

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology buried 8-of-9 three-pointers in the first half and relied on a balanced scoring attack to top Illinois Wesleyan University 70-46 in the women's basketball home opener on Wednesday night.

Junior Kristen Belyea led the Rose-Hulman offense with 14 points on 5-8 from the field and 3-6 from three-point range.  Junior Josie Schmidt added nine points as seven players scored five points or more in the balanced performance.

Freshman Abby Bromenschenkel came off the bench for eight points, and senior Andi Evers was a perfect 3-3 from the field for eight points of her own.  Junior Abbie Marshall had six points and three assists.  

Senior Cassidy Cain provided five points, three rebounds and four assists, and freshman Jenna Queary also scored five points on the evening.  Sophomore Alyzia Dilworth scored four points with four assists, and freshman Ally Bromenschenkel also scored four points.

Rebekah Ehresman led the Illinois Wesleyan offense with 18 points, and Gabrielle Holness pitched in with eight points.

Rose-Hulman shot 65% from the field in the first half and hit 8-9 three-point attempts to build leads of 23-7 after the first quarter and 42-16 at halftime.  The lead reached as high as 31 points early in the fourth quarter, and the Fightin' Engineers led wire-to-wire for their fourth win.

Rose-Hulman stands 4-1 on the season and returns to action on Saturday with a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference home game against Mount St. Joseph at 1 p.m.
