TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team with Mount St. Joseph will now take place on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m.
The contest was moved from Saturday to Sunday due to a projected significant snow and ice mix scheduled for the Terre Haute area on Friday and Saturday.
The game will also honor three seniors, Emily Fuhs, Gracie Gibbs, and Sheree Williams, who will be playing the final home games of their careers.
Rose-Hulman enters the contest with an even 12-12 record on the season including an 8-9 mark in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play. The Engineers secure an HCAC Tournament berth for a fifth consecutive year with a victory.
As of Feb. 14, the Engineers lead the conference in scoring defense (51.6) and field goal percentage defense (.339).
Individually, Gibbs leads the team offensively averaging 8.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Sophomore Abbie Marshall is second on the team in scoring, averaging 7.9 points per contest. Sophomore Jamie Loving is second in rebounds, grabbing 5.5 boards per game.
The Lions enter the game with a 6-18 record including a 2-15 mark in HCAC competition. Mount St. Joseph won its last contest, defeating Anderson 67-52 on Wednesday. Tara Dennis (16.4) and Brilyn Webb (10.0) are the two Lions averaging in double figures.
Lauren Hill, now an honorary coach for Mount St. Joseph, played in four contests for the Lions at the beginning of the season. Hill currently battles terminal brain cancer, and recently received an honorary doctorate from Mount St. Joseph University. In addition, she finished runner-up for the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year for her courage and the impact of fund raising efforts to help those also fighting cancer. In the two team's previous meeting, Rose-Hulman won a 55-36 decision in Cincinnati on Jan. 17. Junior Carrie Morris led the led the Engineers with 13 points. Sophomores Kristen Belyea and Josie Schmidt each added nine points.
Rose-Hulman leads the all-time series with Mount St. Joseph 17-5. The Engineers have won the previous nine meetings dating back to the 2010-11 season.
