Women's Basketball Hosting Hanover Wednesday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team continues its quest for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) berth when the Fightin' Engineers host the Hanover Panthers for a 7:30 p.m. game at Hulbert Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 11.

Rose-Hulman enters the contest with an 11-10 mark overall and a 7-7 record in conference play. The Engineers most recently routed Manchester 63-31 last Saturday. Rose-Hulman held the Spartans to just 12 made field goals and 25 percent shooting. In addition, Rose-Hulman dished out 17 assists while committing only 14 turnovers. Senior Sheree Williams and sophomore Josie Schmidt both finished with 10 points. In addition, Schmidt tied her career-high by blocking four shots.

Senior Gracie Gibbs leads the team offensively averaging 8.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Sophomore Abbie Marshall is second on the team in both categories, averaging 7.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.

As of Feb. 9, the Engineers lead the HCAC in scoring defense (51.1) and field goal percentage defense (.338). In addtion, Rose-Hulman ranks 24th in all of NCAA Division III in scoring defense allowing opponents 51.1 points per game.

Hanover (15-6) comes into the game on a six-game winning streak. The Panthers currently sit second in the HCAC with an 11-3 record. Jessie Davidson (15.9), Megan Caudill (14.8), and Alicia Hopkins (14.0) account for 57 percent of Hanover's scoring.

The last time the team's met, Rose-Hulman fell at Hanover 71-55 on Jan. 21. Marshall led the Engineers with 11 points while Gibbs added eight points and eight rebounds. As a team, Rose-Hulman shot 42.3 percent from the field, but committed 27 turnovers. Hanover's Megan Caudill led all scorers with 24 points. The Panthers have won the last 16 meetings. Rose-Hulman last won in a 52-51 decision early in the 2007-08 season.

After the game with Hanover, Rose-Hulman hosts Bluffton on Saturday, Feb. 14. The Game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
