TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored multiple runs in three innings and relied on a strong pitching performance from freshman Joey Callahan to top Franklin College 7-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball action on Wednesday night at Art Nehf Field.

Callahan scattered just three hits over 6.1 innings of work with three stikeouts to improve to 2-2 on the season and help the Fightin' Engineers move to 3-1 in league play.  Senior Ben Menich tossed 1.1 scoreless innings, before senior John Krasich recorded the last four outs for his first save of the season.

Offensively, juniors Kody Alayon and Caleb Kissel had two hits each as part of the eight-hit attack.  Alayon had two singles, scored twice and drove home two runs, while Kissel had a double and two RBIs.  Junior Zach Trusk also added a two-RBI double, and senior Patrick Klima scored twice and walked three times to add to the attack.

The Rose-Hulman defense committed no errors and turned three double plays behind the trio of pitchers.  The Engineers scored twice in the third and fourth innings, then added three more runs in the eighth for the final margin of victory.

Rose-Hulman improved to 8-6 on the season and 3-1 in HCAC play, while Franklin dropped to 7-9 and 0-4 in league games.  The Fightin' Engineers return to action with a three-game home series against Manchester University this weekend.
