TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Manchester University snapped a 2-2 tie with two runs in the eighth inning and four in the ninth to earn an 8-4 win over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball action on Saturday afternoon.
Trevor Kimm provided the big blow with a three-run home run in the ninth to propel a four-run inning. Six Spartans had hits in the contest, with Tailur Szarenski adding two RBIs on the afternoon.
Sean Liedtky picked up the victory for the Spartans, allowing six hits and no earned runs with three strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Rose-Hulman slapped nine hits in the contest to remain in a tightly contested 2-2 tie through seven innings. Junior Kody Alayon and junior Patrick Klima led the offense with two singles each. Alayon scored twice and Klima had one run. Junior Caleb Kissel added two RBIs and a single.
Junior Andrew Stull took the tough luck loss on the mound. Stull allowed just three hits and one earned run in eight innings of work with five strikeouts to lower his earned run average to 1.50.
Manchester improved to 11-3 on the season and 4-0 in league play, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 8-7 and 3-2. The Fightin' Engineers and Spartans square off in a doubleheader on Sunday at noon.
