Baseball Falls in Extra Innings at Franklin

BOX SCORE

FRANKLIN, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology rallied from a 7-2 deficit to force extra innings, before Franklin College earned a 9-8 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball victory in 13 innings on Tuesday afternoon.

Rose-Hulman scored five runs in the eighth inning to tie the game at 7-7.  Franklin gained an 8-7 lead in the eighth, but Rose-Hulman rallied to tie the game at 8-8 on an RBI ground out in the top of the ninth.

The game then turned into a bullpen battle between Logan Macaluso of Franklin and Alec McNally.  Macaluso picked up the win with 5.1 innings of work, allowing just the ninth inning run.  McNally tossed three scoreless innings to move the game into the late afternoon.

Finally, Franklin clinched the victory with a sacrifice fly by Jameson Brock in the bottom of the 13th inning.  The Fightin' Engineer bullpen held Franklin to just one earned run in the last 7+ innings of work.

Offensively, sophomore Kevin Jendra led the Fightin' Engineers with three hits, including two doubles.  Jendra also scored twice.  Junior Kody Alayon, junior Patrick Klima, junior Caleb Kissel, sophomore Drew Schnitz and junior Hazen Hamather each had two his for Rose-Hulman.

Alayon scored twice, Klima added two RBIs and Schnitz had three RBIs.  Klima hit a two-run single to tie the score at 7-7 in the top of the eighth, and Schnitz brought home the tying run with an RBI ground out in the eighth.

Franklin improved to 9-12 and 2-6 in HCAC play on the season, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 10-8 and 5-3 in league games.  The Fightin' Engineers return home this weekend to face Transylvania University on Friday and Saturday.
