AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team rallied from a five-run deficit, but ultimately fell to Warburg 11-7 on Friday, March 6.
Wartburg (4-1) used two Fightin' Engineer errors to score four runs in the first inning. The Knights added another run in the second to take a 5-0 advantage.
The Engineers began their rally in the top of the third. After singles from junior Kody Alayon and sophomore Cody Sunderhaus, junior Patrick Klima launnced his first collegiate home run to cut the deficit to 5-3. Two innings later, Rose-Hulman took its first lead after a sacrifice fly from junior Caleb Kissel and a two-RBI single from junior Donnie Waters plated three runs.
Wartburg responded by scoring the game's next four runs, two runs in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth inning. Waters knocked in his third runner of the day with a double in the ninth inning.
Offensively, Klima and Waters led the charge as both finished with three hits and three runs batted in. Five other Engineers added a single hit bringing the team total to 12 for the contest.
Junior Andrew Stull took the loss giving up four earned runs and striking out four in five innings of work.
Rose-Hulman (3-2) plays its final game of the 2015 Spring Trip against Fitchburg St. tomorrow (Saturday), March 7. First pitch is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
