HANOVER, Ind. -- Hanover College relied on two three-run innings and a strong pitching performance to top Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 6-1 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball series opener on Friday afternoon.
Hanover scored three times in the fourth inning and three times in the eighth to provide enough offense for the afternoon. Rose-Hulman had seven hits in the contest and had opportunities to score but left 12 runners on base in the contest.
Junior Kody Alayon led the Rose-Hulman offense with three singles, and junior Nevin Fansher added two hits on the day. Sophomore Kevin Jendra opened the ninth inning with a single and later scored the lone run.
Matt Newman had a home run among two hits with two RBIs, and Chris Ares and Nolan Hall recorded two hits each for the Panthers. Alex Lantz pitched 6.1 scoreless innings to pick up the win for Hanover.
Hanover improved to 10-11 and 6-7 in HCAC play with the victory, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 12-11 and 7-6 in conference games.
