Softball drops doubleheader at Anderson

BOX SCORE - GAME ONE

BOX SCORE - GAME TWO

ANDERSON, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team dropped a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) doubleheader to Anderson University, falling 9-1 in both games on a windy day at the Anderson Softball Field on Tuesday.

In game one, Rose-Hulman (17-11, 5-7 HCAC) jumped on the board first as junior Marissa Stout hit a home run over the left field fence in the first inning.

Anderson (21-9, 10-2 HCAC) scored a run in both the first and second innings, and used two home runs to score four runs in the third.

The Engineers threaten in the fourth when freshman Jenny Miller singled to center field and senior Carly Heibel followed with a double to right field. Unfortunately for Rose-Hulman, Anderson pitcher Hannah Belvo struck out senior Jessica Ahlborn to end the threat.

The Ravens would end the game in the fifth with a 2-RBI single from Samantha Ausmus.

In game two, Rose-Hulman tied the game 1-1 in the third inning when freshman Gabbi Markison singled to center field scoring fellow freshman Jessica Will. The Ravens responded with eight runs in the home half of the frame.

Markison finished 2-3 in game two. Sophomore Ellissa Eckert and freshman Michelle Korf also added hits for the Engineers. Heibel finished the game for Rose-Hulman in circle, allowing just one hit in the final 1.1 innings.

Rose-Hulman steps out of conference play next as the Engineers welcome Webster to the Rose-Hulman Softball Field on Thursday, April 23. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
