TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's tennis team travels to the West Indy Racquet Club for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament this weekend.
Rose-Hulman faces Earlham in the tournament finals on Sunday at 10 a.m. The Engineers defeated Transylvania 5-1 in the semifinals while the Quakers edged Franklin 5-3 in the other semifinal.
Rose-Hulman comes into the tournament with an 11-5 record on the season and an 8-0 mark in HCAC play. Sophomore Georges Adam, freshman Cam Metzger, and freshman Derek Benedict all have at least 10 singles wins playing primarily second, third, and fifth singles respectively. As a team, the Fightin' Engineers are 64-32 in singles flights this season.
In doubles, Adam and sophomore Brandon Benedict team up as RHIT's first doubles team and boast a 9-5 record. Junior Matt Conrad and Metzger, RHIT's second doubles team, also have a 9-5 record on the year.
With Rose-Hulman's victory over Transylvania, the Engineers clinched the program's first-ever outright HCAC regular season title. Rose-Hulman's next goal is to win the HCAC Tournament for the first time and receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA III Men's Tennis Tournament.
