Men's Tennis Faces Carthage in NCAAs Friday at 1:10 CT

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's tennis team will play the program's first-ever match in the NCAA III Men's Tennis Championships against Carthage College in a regional hosted by Washington University.

Rose-Hulman (13-5) and Carthage (19-6) will play on Friday, May 8, at 1:10 p.m. Central Standard Time (2:10 EST) at Kings Point.  NOTE A SITE AND TIME CHANGE. The winner will take on host Washington U. (18-5) on Saturday morning. Whitman (21-5) and Sewanee (16-5) represent the other side of the bracket and will play Saturday afternoon with the regional championship match being played at noon on Sunday. The regional features three nationally-ranked teams; No. 5 Washington U., No. 15 Whitman, and No. 28 Sewanee.

Rose-Hulman won both the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) regular season title outright and the 2015 HCAC Men's Tennis Tournament. The Fightin' Engineers did not drop a match in conference play, running the table with a perfect 8-0 record. Rose-Hulman dropped just four matches in the entire conference regular season, falling at six singles against Franklin and Earlham while losing first doubles to Earlham as well. In the HCAC Tournament, the Engineers defeated Transylvania 5-1 in the semifinals before knocking off Earlham 6-1 in the championship.

Sophomores Brandon Benedict and Georges Adam are the two Engineers who have over 20 career singles victories. Benedict, who has played first singles the entire year, is 24-13 in his career and carries an 11-8 record this season. Adam, RHIT's second singles player, is 25-10 in his career had 13-5 on the season. The two also team up as the Engineers' first doubles squad.

Junior Matt Conrad and freshman Cam Metzger are 13-6 on the season representing Rose-Hulman's second doubles team. The two are 13-6 on the season and 11-5 in dual matches. In singles, Conrad carries a team-high 15 wins playing primarily fourth singles. Metzger, who has played all but one match at third singles, is 12-3.

Freshman Derek Benedict, brother of Brandon Benedict, is 14-4 playing primarily fifth singles while freshman Tyler Haas, playing sixth singles, is 9-7 on the year. The two have played eight matches at third doubles together and are 5-3 on the season.

Junior Erin Miller and sophomore Joe Kendall are on the NCAA roster as an alternate doubles team. The two are 7-2 on the season playing all but one match at third doubles. Miller and Kendall, along with senior Ray Montgomery, are also eligible for singles competition.

Similar to Rose-Hulman, Carthage won both the regular season Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) championship and the 2015 CCIW Men's Tennis Tournament. The Red Men defeated Augustana 5-2 in the championship game. In addition, Carthage enters the match with Rose-Hulman riding a 10-game match winning streak.
