BOX SCORES: WEBSTER / FONTBONNE
ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Rose-Hulman volleyball team opened the 2015 season with four-set wins over Webster University and Fontbonne University on Tuesday night in St. Louis.
The Fightin' Engineers defeated Webster 25-19, 25-21, 19-25, 25-22 in the opener. The four-set result repeated itself in a 25-15, 19-25, 25-11, 25-16 win over Fontbonne in the nightcap.
Against Fontbonne, junior Morgan Dreyer paced Rose-Hulman with 10 kills and 11 assists. Freshman Julia Hammond and freshman Bailey MacInnis contributed nine kills each. Three players reached double figures in assists, with graduate student Sarah Jensen contributing 16 and freshman Marissa Gollnick adding 13.
Defensively, sophomore Gabi Razma had a match-high 24 digs to pace Rose-Hulman. Gollnick had 20 digs, and the duo of Jensen and MacInnis added 10 each. Junior Emily McLendon led the blocking effort with three, and sophomore Alison Rogozinski had a team-best three service aces.
Against Webster, MacInnis led the Fightin' Engineer offense with 18 kills, and Hammond contributed 11 kills. Jensen recorded 19 assists and 10 digs, with Gollnick pitching in 15 assists. Razma had a team-high 27 digs, and Hammond contributed 20 digs to the effort. Mackenzie Gossard recorded a team-high four blocks in the front row.
Rose-Hulman returns to action away on Friday and Saturday at the Washington University Invitational in St. Louis.
