TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology volleyball team improved to 8-1 on the season after defeating Capital and Muskingum in day one of the Fightin' Engineer Volleyball Invitational.
Rose-Hulman defeated Capital 25-16, 20-25, 25-17, 25-22, before capturing a 25-17, 25-21, 25-16 win over Muskingum in the nightcap.
Against Capital, freshman Julia Hammond recorded 19 kills, and Bailey MacInnis added 12 kills to pace the offense. Freshman Marissa Gollnick had a team-high 24 assists, and senior Sarah Jensen had 18 assists. Sophomore Gabi Razma recorded 18 digs.
Gollnick led the serving performance with four service aces, and junior Emily McLendon led the team with three blocks.
Against Muskingum, Gollnick led a balanced performance with seven kills. Hammond and Jensen tallied six kills each. Jensen had a team-high 16 assists, while Gollnick tallied 11. Razma added 24 digs to the effort.
Rose-Hulman's blocking effort was a key against Muskingum, with McClendon recording four solo blocks. Hammond and sophomore Mackenzie Gossard each had two solo blocks and two assists.
Rose-Hulman returns to action Sunday on the second day of the home invite at 11 a.m. against Centre and 1 p.m. against Ohio Wesleyan.
