Football Team Travels to Illinois College on Saturday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Illinois College rematch on Saturday at 6 p.m. Central Time in Jacksonville, Illinois, after meeting in one of the most noteworthy games in NCAA Division III history last season. 

Rose-Hulman earned a 74-68 triple overtime victory over Illinois College in a 2014 game that tied the national record for combined points in a game.  The two teams combined for 1,569 yards of total offense, 1,138 yards of passing offense and 77 first downs in a game that featured Rose-Hulman setting a new NCAA Division III national record for first downs in a game with 41. 

The two teams set a new national record with 77 combined first downs last season.  The national record for touchdown passes in a game between both teams also fell, as the teams combined for 13 to top the previous mark of 12.  Both teams also set the NCAA Division III single game record for offensive plays in a game -- Illinois College ran 117, Rose-Hulman 114.

This season, both Rose-Hulman and Illinois College enter the matchup with 1-0 records after winning last Saturday.  The Fightin' Engineers defeated Kalamazoo 29-14 at Cook Stadium, while Illinois College topped Aurora University 53-20.

Rose-Hulman's victory featured a strong defensive performance that resulted in HCAC Player of the Week honors for junior Kevin Nowak, who had five solo tackles and one interception.  Austin Swenson finished 28-44 through the air for 294 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions to lead the offensive effort.

Illinois College senior Brady Huber leads the Midwest Conference in total offense after passing for 349 yards and rushing for 41 yards last week.  Saturday night's game marks the 2015 home opener for the Blueboys.

After Saturday's matchup. Rose-Hulman returns home to face Hanover College in the Homecoming Game on Sept. 19 at 2 p.m.
