TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opens the 2015 football season with a Saturday night home matchup against Kalamazoo College.
The game will begin at 7:30 p.m. after a 30-minute lightning delay.
Rose-Hulman returns most of the starting lineup from a team that finished 7-3 and set 37 school records last fall. Returnees include six offensive and nine defensive starters a 2014 season that included new school records for points in a season (389), total offensive yards (4,970), all-purpose yards (6,002), pass completions (294), passing yards (3,458) and passing touchdowns (33).
Rose-Hulman returns one first-team all-conference and all-region honoree in wide receiver Alec Fisher (72 rec., 871 yards, 15 TDs) from last season's team. Returning second-team honorees include wide receiver Aaron Abbott, offensive lineman T.J. Demos, defensive back Kevin Nowak, defensive back Chris Sander and quarterback Austin Swenson.
Rose-Hulman head coach Jeff Sokol faces his alma mater in Saturday night's matchup. Sokol is a 1996 graduate of Kalamazoo and defeated the Hornets on the gridiron for the first time last year by a 40-13 margin.
Kalamazoo looks to rebound after a 2-8 season that was highlighted by its first win over Hope College since 1995. Senior linebacker Dylan Zerki leads the returnees after recording 70 tackles a season ago. Alex White leads the offense after completing 81 of 135 passes for 1,242 yards last fall.
After Saturday's game, Rose-Hulman returns to the field on Sept. 12 with a road trip at Illinois College.
