TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Bluffton University relied on a strong hitting performance to top Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 25-16, 25-22, 25-14 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball opener for both teams on Saturday at Hulbert Arena.
Jenny Brown paced Bluffton with 14 kills and the balanced attack compiled a .260 hitting percentage for the match.
Freshman Marissa Gollnick led Rose-Hulman with six kills and 15 assists. Junior Morgan Dreyer also added six kills and pitched in with nine assists. Freshman Bailey MacInnis tallied five kills and the team's lone service ace.
Sophomore Gabi Razma recorded a team-high 16 digs, and junior Emily McLendon recorded one solo block and one block assist for the Fightin' Engineers.
Bluffton improved to 9-6 overall and 1-0 in HCAC play, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 8-9 and 0-1 in league play. The Fightin' Engineers host Manchester University on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. at Hulbert Arena.
