TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Illinois Wesleyan University battled to a 2-2 tie in men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon at the Engineer Intramural Field.
Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 30 minutes of the match, but Illinois Wesleyan scored in the 42nd and 83rd minutes to force extra time.
Junior Nick Kowalkowski put the Fightin' Engineers on the board at the 4:18 mark. Kowalkowski scored after a free kick assist by senior Dieter Schultz.
Schultz made the score 2-0 with his goal in the 28th minute on an assist from Alex Jansen. Illinois Wesleyan answered back with goals by Mason Maier and Joey Delbert to force the draw.
Illinois Wesleyan narrowly outshot Rose-Hulman 18-17 in the contest, with sophomore Carter Wright recording seven saves for the Fightin' Engineers. Schultz, Ben Lyon, Turner Perkins and Austin Webb had three shots each to lead the Rose-Hulman effort.
Rose-Hulman stands 5-2-2 on the season, while Illinois Wesleyan has a mark of 3-4-1. The Fightin' Engineers open the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference at home next Saturday against Defiance.
