TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology battled the No. 9 ranked NCAA Division III team in the nation into double overtime before falling to Illinois Wesleyan University 1-0 in women's soccer action on Sunday.
Illinois Wesleyan controlled the statistics for much of the match, outshooting the Fightin' Engineers 27-2 in the match. Rose-Hulman relied on a strong defensive effort to keep the match scoreless for 104 minutes, led by 14 saves from senior goalkeeper Lucinda Combs.
Illinois Wesleyan finally scored on a scramble play, when Sydney Fox made a deflected pass in front to Jenna Baker, who scored the lone goal of the day.
Kirby Kern and Hayley Gilliam recorded shots for the Rose-Hulman offensive effort.
Illinois Wesleyan improved to 9-1 on the season, while Rose-Hulman stands 3-5. The Fightin' Engineers travel to St. Mary-of-the-Woods College on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
