TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's tennis opens with two matches at NCAA Division II Oakland City University on Saturday.
The Fightin' Engineers will face off with Oakland City at 9 a.m. Central Time on Saturday. The second match features Rose-Hulman against Indiana University-Southeast at 1 p.m. Central Time.
Rose-Hulman returns four of its top six players from last season and has added four new upperclassmen and two freshman to the 2015-16 roster. The Fightin' Engineers finished 11-3 overall and 7-1 in conference play last season. Rose-Hulman also finished second in the conference regular season and tournament standings for the second consecutive year.
Sophomore Bella Evans leads the four returning starters after finishing a perfect 13-0 in singles play last season. Junior Lauren Edwards finished 9-3 overall in singles play, while senior Lauren Miller (9-3) and junior Sydney Short (9-2) provided significant depth. Junior Becca Stanley also finished 3-1 in singles play last year.
In doubles play, Edwards and Evans combined for an 8-3 record as the primary No. 2 doubles squad. Miller and Short were 10-3 at the primarily No. 3 spot.
After Saturday's matches, Rose-Hulman returns to action at Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Hanover College on Sept. 12.
