ANDERSON, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology continues its 2016 women's basketball schedule with its first doubleheader away matchup of the year at Defiance College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Rose-Hulman stands 11-3 overall and 5-2 in HCAC play entering Saturday's game. The Fightin' Engineers recorded the best single-game offensive and defensive performances in school history during their games before the holiday break, scoring 104 points against St. Mary-of-the-Woods and holding Illinois Tech to just 17.
The Fightin' Engineers lineup this week features HCAC Player of the Week in freshman Ally Bromenschenkel. Bromenschenkel is averaging 8.5 ppg and 4.5 rpg. She is also ranked second in the league in field goal percentage with 61%.
Rose-Hulman extended its winning streak to six games with a 65-55 win over Anderson on Wednesday evening. The Fightin' Engineers shot 47% from the field and the offense was led by Josie Schmidt with 13 points.
The balanced Rose-Hulman scoring attack features eight players averaging between 5.0 and 8.2 points per game. Ally Bromenschenkel leads the team in scoring at 8.5 points per game, and the starting frontcourt has featured Josie Schmidt (8.3 ppg) and Abbie Marshall (6.6 ppg). The starting backcourt has included seniors Cassidy Cain (5.9 ppg) and Andi Evers (2.6 ppg).
Other leading scorers for the Fightin' Engineers have included Kristen Belyea (7.9 ppg), Brianna Gliesmann (6.4 ppg), Chiarra Franklin (5.4 ppg) and Alyzia Dilworth (5.0 ppg). A total of 12 players have seen action in ten or more contests.
Defiance stands 3-11 overall and 2-5 in league play entering Saturday's matchup. The Yellow Jackets recently lost to Earlham College, but have conference wins this season over Manchester and Anderson.
After Saturday's matchup, Rose-Hulman returns to action at home against Earlham College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
