Balanced Attack Leads RHIT Men Past Earlham

RICHMOND, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology placed five Engineers in double figures and shot 49% from the field to top Earlham College 79-70 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Wednesday at Earlham.

Freshman Luke Callahan led the balanced attack with 16 points on 7-12 from the field and seven rebounds.  His 16 points also tied a career-high in scoring. Senior Matt Loesing added 14 points on 5-9 from the field and seven rebounds.

Senior Dillon Reynolds contributed 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while freshman Charlie Aimone had 10 points.

Other key contributors for the Fightin' Engineers included JT Whitaker with a career-high 10 points and five rebounds, Tyler Duffy with nine points and Stephen Schueth with seven points.

Chainey Zolman led the Quakers with 14 points on 3-9 from behind the arc.  Isaiah Waire scored nine points, and Taylen Alexander added eight for Earlham.

Rose-Hulman built a 39-27 lead at the half on 53% shooting from the field.  The Fightin' Engineers increased their lead to as many as 20 points midway through the second half, before Earlham rallied to trim the margin to eight.  Rose-Hulman relied on its shooting and a 41-36 rebounding edge to secure the victory.

The Fightin' Engineers improved to 8-8 overall and 5-4 in conference play, while Earlham dropped to 1-15 overall and 0-9 in HCAC play.  Rose-Hulman returns to action at Transylvania University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
