HANOVER, Ind. -- Hanover College held the Fightin' Engineers to 29% from the field in the first half and relied on a strong defensive effort to earn a 67-57 men's basketball victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday night at Collier Arena.
Michael Van Kleunen led the Panthers with 25 points. Wes McKinney added 16 points and seven rebounds, and V.J. Billups pitched in with 12 points and eight rebounds for Hanover.
Senior Dillon Reynolds led the Rose-Hulman offense with 11 points. Freshman Luke Callahan added nine points and four rebounds for the Engineers.
Hanover shot a combined 42.3% from the field, including 46.2% from behind the 3-point line to earn the victory.
Rose-Hulman shot 88.9% from the free throw line including an impressive 7-8 from senior Tyler Duffy. Other key Rose-Hulman contributors included senior Jimmy Miller with five points and senior Matt Loesing with seven points and seven rebounds.
Rose-Hulman stands 6-6 on the season, while Hanover improved to 6-6. The Fightin' Engineers (3-2 HCAC) return to action at home on Saturday in doubleheader action against Manchester University. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
