Balanced Attack Leads Manchester Past RHIT

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Manchester University shot 55% from behind the 3-point line and 78% on the free throw line to earn a 79-75 men's basketball victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon at Hulbert Arena.

With a large crowd for Alumni Day, Rose-Hulman was up 66-57 with seven minutes remaining in the second half.  After eight consecutive points from Manchester senior Matt Brown, the Spartans pulled into three points away from the Fightin' Engineer lead.  Manchester secured the win by hitting 6-7 from the free throw line in the final minute. 

Senior Matt Loesing led the Rose-Hulman offense with a double-double that included 19 points and 10 rebounds.  Seniors Dillon Reynolds (13) and Jimmy Miller (11) also scored in double figures for the Fightin' Engineers.

Manchester University ended with five players in double figures. Brody Kirby led the Spartans off the bench with 17 points.  Other key contributors were Brady Dolezal (11), Matt Brown (10), Adrian Johnson (11), and Blake Brouwer (10).

Rose-Hulman shot a combined 53% from the field in the game, including 38% from behind the 3-point line in the loss. 

Other key Rose-Hulman contributors include sophomore Stephen Schueth and junior Wade Stallings with nine points each.

Rose-Hulman stands 6-7 on the season, while Manchester improved to 7-6 (4-2 HCAC).  The Fightin' Engineers (3-3 HCAC) return to action at home on Wednesday against Anderson University for the Husco Automotive sponsored night. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
