TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- After a strong fall, the Rose-Hulman Insitute of Technology women's tennis team will look to compete for the HCAC Championship this coming weekend in Indianapolis.
The Fightin' Engineers have posted an overall record of 10-2 and 7-1 in the HCAC, good for a second place regualr season finish. Their only loss in HCAC was to the Regular Season Champion Hanover.
So far this year Anna Thompson has posted a 9-3 record at #1 singles. The freshman from Anderson, SC was named HCAC Player of the Week on September 12.
Junior Bella Evans has put together a perfect season thus far in the #2 singles slot, going 11-0. She was named HCAC Player of the Week on October 10.
Freshman Naomi Bhagat has been strong for the Fighitn' Engineers in 2016, posting a record of 11-1 at #3 singles.
Senior Lauren Edwards has been the main #4 singles competitor in 2016. She has compiled a 4-3 record in the #4 slot.
Sophomore Linde Schaffer has rotated between #4, #5, and #6 singles this season. Overall she has compiled a record of 4-2. She is 2-0 in #4 spot, 1-2 in #5 singles, and 1-0 in the #6 slot.
Senior Sydney Short has gone 5-0 this year from the #5 singles slot. She has also gone 1-0 from the #4 singles position and 2-1 from the #6 singles position.
Fellow senior Becca Stanley has anchored the #6 singels position for most the othe 2016 season. She has compiled a record of 4-0 in that slot.
On the doubles side, Thompson and Bhagat have been the main #1 doubles duo in 2016 and they have compiled a 6-3 overall record. Evans and Schaffer have gone 3-5 at the #2 doubles spot. Coach Dan Hopkins has used numerous combinations at the #3 doubles spot, but the duo of Edwards and Stanley has gone 2-1.
The women will receive a first round bye and will play in the HCAC Semifinals on Saturday October 15. They will play the winner of the #6 seed Transylvania and #3 seed Franklin.
