TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- With the HCAC Regular Season coming to a close this past weekend, the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team will gear up for postseason play this coming Tuesday November 1.
The Fightin' Engineers will be the No. 4 seed in the 2016 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The women will play at No. 1 seed Franklin College.
Rose-Hulman finished the regular season with an overall record of 11-7 and went 6-3 in Heartland Conference play. Over their last 10 contests, the Fighitn' Engineers have posted a record of 7-3. The 11 wins this season are the second most in a single season during Head Coach Amy Helliwell's tenure at Rose-Hulman.
The duo of Jessica Wells and Madeline Romeo led the Rose-Hulman offense this season. Wells scored eight goals during the regular season, four of which were game-winners. She was twice named HCAC Player of the Week. Romeo scored six goals and added six assists in 2016. She converted a penalty kick in double-overtime against Transylvania to give the Fightin' Engineers a win to open HCAC play. 10 different Engineers have scored at least one goal this season.
The no. 1 seed Franklin College Grizzlies won the Heartland Regular Season Championship after finishing conference play 8-1. The Grizzlies finished the 2016 regular season with an overall record of 15-3.
Last week the Fightin' Engineers kept Franklin's potent offense in check, but narrowly fell to the Griz by a final score of 1-0.
Kickoff from Franklin on Tuesday is set for 7:30 p.m.
