GAME NOTES
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opens the 2016-17 men's basketball season at the Birmingham Southern Tipoff Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
Rose-Hulman is coming off of a successful 2015-16 campaign. The Fightin' Engineers went 17-11 (12-6 in league play) and advanced to the HCAC Championship game.
This year the men were picked to finish fifth in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball standings, in a preseason poll of league coaches released last month. As a team RHIT shot 48 percent from the field last season which ranked tied for 2nd in the HCAC.
Head Coach Rusty Loyd returns the team's fifth through ninth leading scorers from a season ago return to lead the offense. Sophomore Charlie Aimone is the leading returning scorer at 8.8 points per game. Sophomore Luke Callahan, sophomore Stephen Schueth, senior Collin Wojcik and senior Wade Stallings also saw significant time last season.
The men will open up their schedule against Birmingham Southen College on Saturday November 19 at 6 p.m. Last year the Panthers went 23-7.
The Fightin' Engineers will play a second game against Rust College on Sunday November 20. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. Last season Rust finished 7-18.
